The CR-12 is a standard Ugly conversion. Conversion plans are available from the Bureau of Ships and Services, scandoc 23d33/ae221RC. This ship maintains the control systems of the X-wing with the engine system of the Y-wing. Only two heavy laser cannons are mounted because the wing configuration on the Y-wing does not give enough room to prevent laser cannon ‘flashback’. Additionally, it is rare that enough of the X-wing cannons are found during a salvage operation, to fully equip a CR-12 with 4 cannons. This configuration is considered one of the most stable Uglies, though it is one of the rarest. Either through luck or skill, less and less X-wing and Y-wing chassis are being found in the aftermath of major starfighter conflicts.
